This is a must read article that is a follow up to my last post!!! If you are a reader here at C.I.R. you are required to read this article or never come back again!

"While cultivating Beijing, Putin, a man who describes the fall of the Soviet Union as "the geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century," has become increasingly shrill in his attacks against Washington. In a Feb. 10 speech to an international security conference in Munich, he delivered a searing, almost Orwellian attack against the United States. Putin painted a picture of an increasingly brutal, violent world, suggesting that the United States, and not terrorist groups or despots, was to blame..."
[UPDATE]
Nothing like a good old "book burning" and Governement censorship! The Soviets are almost making it too easy for me to prove my point. "Pribylovsky is in a much more dangerous position than I am because I am in the United States and he is in Russia," Felshtinsky said. Now why would it be safer to be in the US, I thought we were evil imperialists? (PS-Lefties, please don't try to compare this to Plame. She knew the deal, the CIA can edit anything it wants from employees works. This is a JOURNALIST.)
[UPDATE]
"Asked what he might do to retaliate, he said he would return Russia to the Cold War status where missiles were aimed at European targets."

USSR Watch 2

C.I.R. Press Editorial

UNDISCLOSED –
The Soviet Union is once again ratcheting up the rhetoric aimed at the US like they did in the Cold War. The only problem is they are not the force they were then. Between the fall of communism and their grip on vast areas they failed. However, as the months pass the (need I remind you) “ex-“KGB President Putin has taken steps back towards the good ol’ days. The steps he has taken have even had some on the left, and those that hate America peeved.

It was over a year ago that the Soviet President was announcing to the world that they developed a new stealth cruise missile that is capable of penetrating any missile defense system. Ok, so quit your bitching about the US getting allies (don’t you lefties like them) to allow us to place a nominal number of interceptors that could counter a rogue missile launch towards the US or Europe. Putin claims our plan will turn Europe in to a “powder keg.” Only thanks to you, Mr. Putin.

Quite frankly I don’t understand why 10 missiles with hit-to-kill vehicles on them (no explosives involved) would concern you. I cannot remember the exact quote but he went on to speak about the protection of Europe and how important that is. I would say that stopping missiles against hitting the European countries is a good way to start that protection. As I have said an uncountable number of times 10 interceptors in no way counteracts the Soviet Union’s ICBMs! We fought that war and won. Although it seems as though we didn’t, we didn’t get rid of all the cockroaches and left one communist loving spook that happen to become President.

And to President Putin, I ask if your super-duper special missiles are so amazing then why the concern over our missile defense? We acknowledge that our system cannot defend against a full attack from the USSR. So either your super missile is not so super. Or you want to cause problems. Tie that in with the fact that a year ago while yapping about your new missile you brought up our “ally” Chirac and went over the system with him. Oh also at the time you were going to be inviting Hamas to come for a slumber party.

Now why would I have any concern of the Soviet Union complaining about our missile defense system when he is meeting with terrorist organizations, detailing secrets to our enemy Chriac, and boasting of new missiles left and right able to penetrate ANY missile defense system the US has and/or develops?

OH YEAH (just remembered)...

While we are talking about creating "powder kegs" President Putin, how about YOUR sale of SAMs to Iran at a very interesting time!?

Armed Forces Day

President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country.

On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Days. The single-day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under one department -- the Department of Defense.

In Veto Signature, A Tribute

In Veto Signature, A Tribute -- Bush Stopped Iraq Bill With Pen From Fallen Marine's Dad By
Peter Slevin, Washington Post Staff Writer

When President Bush vetoed the war spending bill, he used Bob Derga's pen. "It was just a plain old black rollerball," Derga said. "Just a $2 pen."

But it was priceless to Derga, an Ohio engineer who used it to write letters to his son in Iraq. Cpl. Dustin A. Derga, a reservist with Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines, was killed in a May 2005 assault just east of the Syrian border. For a grieving father, the pen remained a link to what he considers a young life lost for a good cause, and he wanted Bush to use it for a purpose.

It happened this way: On April 15, Derga and his wife, Marla, drove away from their home in Unionville, where a chiseled stone in Dustin's honor reads, "If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever." Derga was headed for a gathering the next day at the White House, where he hoped to have a minute with the president. He had two principal objectives: the president's signature on Dustin's Purple Heart certificate and a chance to urge him to use the pen if Congress sent him a bill setting an October date to begin a U.S. military withdrawal.

After Bush spoke to the cameras and a supportive audience, an aide led the way for the Dergas and about half a dozen other families connected with Families United for Our Troops and Their Mission. When they reached the Oval Office, Bush was standing in the doorway. "He greeted each family as we came in, gave us a hug and shook hands," Derga said. "Very emotional meeting... . He was choked up."

Derga said Bush spoke to the group, then with each family in turn. "He talked a little bit about how he didn't come to Washington to win popularity polls," said Derga, an engineer with Diebold Inc."He's very firmly behind his beliefs and convictions, and he believes the test of time will prove him correct. He even said whether he lives to see that or not is immaterial. He can leave the White House knowing he did what was right."

During their private meeting, Derga made his plea. "I handed him the pen and looked him in the eye and I said, 'Mr. President, if this comes down to a veto, I want you to sign it with my pen.'

He said, 'Yeah, I'll do it.' When we left, he was shaking everybody's hand. I said, 'I'm serious. I want you to do it.' He said, 'I will. I will.'"

A call from the White House late Tuesday gratified Derga."We very much support the direction the president's taken. It's not a popular one, but he's doing what I feel is morally correct. He's staying the course," said Derga, who aimed "to let him know we fully support him and we can be a little part of it. It's not on his shoulders alone. I'm supplying the ink. He's doing the pen motion. We're in it together."

Speaks for itself II...

It fit in those days, and in many ways more today. Thankfully in the Cold War there were no attacks on US soil, but now we really are fighting for our freedoms.

An Appeal for Courage

[Lt. Jason Nichols is an officer in the US Navy stationed in Iraq. SSG Dave Thul is co-founder of AppealforCourage.org]

Recently a reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle called me here in Baghdad and asked why the active duty military wasn’t opposing the war in Iraq in numbers similar to those that opposed the war in Vietnam. Not surprisingly, he didn’t print my answer.

He was asking my opinion as a co-founder of
AppealForCourage.org, an ongoing effort to allow currently serving military personnel to send a message to Congress asking them to support victory in Iraq. I do not speak as a representative of the Defense Department or the Navy but simply as an individual and on behalf of the signers of the Appeal with respect to the wording of the Appeal. Nevertheless my answer was a military answer. It was a ‘root cause’; a term the military commonly uses to describe the source of an event, a foundation that must be identified before further action is taken. My answer was that the military overwhelmingly wants to win the war, and believes we can. Hence we don’t oppose it.

The primary reason we support the war is because we believe it is just and right, and we were given a mission to win it. The mission was clearly stated: overthrow Saddam and install an independent, stable, democratic government in Iraq. The military necessity was obvious after 9/11, the President said it was required and the Congress voted overwhelmingly in favor of it. We were given a mission and the means to carry it out.

It is a mentality of mission accomplishment that has spurred the Appeal for Courage effort. Just as victory in Iraq seems likely, defeat back home has begun to loom as a real possibility. Vietnam-era Defense Secretary Melvin Laird’s words in Foreign Affairs are a call to action for the modern military:

“The truth about Vietnam that revisionist historians conveniently forget is that the United States had not lost when we withdrew in 1973. In fact, we grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory two years later when Congress cut off the funding for South Vietnam that had allowed it to continue to fight on its own”.

Members of the military have a duty to ensure this mistake is not repeated. We have a responsibility to complete the mission. If that requires us to educate others on the reasons for staying in Iraq, so be it. Yes it’s outside our normal duties and professionally risky. Should we be unwilling to take professional risks while we ask junior soldiers to risk their lives?

The American public is not tired of the war; they are tired of believing that they are losing. They are tired of the daily drumbeat of pessimism and defeat promoted daily by our media and by some in our Congress. (Please continue reading…)

May Day!

Happy May Day you Commies. How is that communism thing going for you?

On a serious note, the President has just officially vetoed the bill from Congress that voted for defeat and surrender. As the President noted, "your political points have been made." So now you can actually kick in to gear and put together a REAL bill.

Although considering you knew this was going to happen you should have put together the bill you are going to have to now... back in the past month. But hey, no urgency right?
